A Role Not Just Anyone Can Master

A Role Not Just Anyone Can Master

At Photosymbols our goal is simple - to make information truly accessible for people with learning disabilities.

Through our photographic images featuring actors with learning disabilities, guidance from our Expert Advisers, and an emphasis on communicating key issues, we create resources that help people better understand the world around them.

Now we’re looking for a new Symbol Designer & Resident Artist to help us continue this important work.

A Unique Opportunity

The Symbol Designer role has been vacant for a while now, and with good reason - it’s no ordinary design job. Creating symbols with photography requires a rare combination of skills, creativity, and understanding.

We’ve seen firsthand how challenging this role can be. While some designers may have backgrounds in line-drawn symbols or traditional illustration, working with photography brings an entirely different level of complexity. Perspective, expression, and realism require careful attention to detail, and not everyone can adapt to these demands.

Past attempts have highlighted how essential it is to find someone who can master these nuances and consistently deliver visuals that feel human, accessible, and meaningful.

This isn’t just a technical role. It’s about understanding the issues and lived experiences of people with learning disabilities and being able to translate those into images that resonate. Getting it wrong risks falling short of the values and purpose that Photosymbols stands for.

We’re now ready to find the right person - someone with the skill, insight, and empathy to meet these challenges and help our team feel whole again.

Do you have what it takes?

This full-time role offers a salary of £37,500 and the chance to work remotely while creating life-changing images. It’s perfect for someone who thrives on creative problem-solving and has the technical expertise to deliver high-quality results.

Why join us?

Photosymbols is a small but passionate team, and every member is key to our success. We’re proud to lead the way in creating Easy Read resources that make a real difference in people’s lives. The role comes with flexible remote working, a health plan, enhanced employer pension contribution and death in service benefit.

If you’re ready to join a team that values creativity, collaboration, and making an impact then we’d love to hear from you.
